On Friday, a report by the education charity Walthamstow Education Online said that some schools were struggling to cope with digital content and had seen a drop in pupils attending school due to this.
In response to the report, David Bickley, head of education at Walthamsworth Education Online, said that teachers should be able to “provide their own digital content”.
He also said that, while digital learning was “a very good thing”, schools should not be forced to “take it”.
“I think the most important thing to remember is that it is the teacher’s responsibility to teach the curriculum and that teachers are trained to make sure that it all fits together,” Bickly told The Times.
“But if a teacher is not able to make it fit, that teacher has no say in the content.”
The teacher has to go out and get students who are able to do that.
But if they cannot, the teacher has absolutely no control over the content they are teaching.
“Bickley added that teachers had “a lot to learn” about digital learning and said they should be aware of “learning and learning management” when using digital materials.”
Teachers should be learning and learning how to manage digital content to ensure that it fits in with their curriculum,” he said.
On the topic of curriculum, the report also revealed that a number of schools were in “deep” debt.
According to Walthampers, this meant that teachers were “at risk of losing their jobs, their income, their pensions and could be at risk of eviction”.
It also warned that “more and more teachers are not being paid at all for their services, and teachers are losing their skills, not getting paid and their job security is being threatened”.
While many schools are trying to improve the quality of their digital materials, the head of the National Union of Teachers (NUT) said that there needed to be more money invested in digital education.
Teachers “have a lot to be proud of” and “have worked hard to make our schools better”, said Rachael Murphy, the NUT’s head of digital.
Murphy added that there was a need to “look at the whole package of the education system”.”
I know that there is money that could be put into the school curriculum, but I think we have to be clear that we need to have a really good school-based digital strategy, which involves teaching digitally, and not just using technology.
“The report highlighted the increasing amount of digital content being released in the UK.
The National Audit Office has said that it expects “significant digital demand in the future” and that it would “increase the importance of the delivery of online learning”.
As well as schools, the Walthampsow Education online survey also highlighted the need for “high quality online teaching”, which was “part of the overall strategy to improve learning and literacy in the schools”.
The survey also asked students how much time they spend online each day, with one in five students reporting that they spent between 10 and 30 minutes online a day.
More than 70 per cent of students said that they spend less than two hours a week online, with an average spend of 10 minutes.
A total of 543,000 people answered the survey, with the figures showing that the proportion of students who use a mobile device is increasing.

Washington, D.C. (AP) The battle over online education is about to get a whole lot more complicated.
The U.S. Department of Education has asked Congress to create a new federal standard that could be used to set standards for online educational resources.
The new standards could be rolled out as early as next year.
But the rules, if approved, would be the first of their kind to apply to online education.
And the rules could make it much harder for schools to survive.
In an interview with The Associated Press, Education Secretary Betsy DeVos said the new standards would be designed to give students access to the tools they need to thrive in the digital age.
But critics say the new rules will put more pressure on schools and students to pay for a service they don’t need.
They say the standards could limit the ability of students to learn in an environment where there is no online teacher or support staff.
“The federal standards for education are really just designed to be there for the convenience of those who are online,” said John McTernan, president of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities.
“They are not designed to do much about how schools are teaching.”
McTernon is also president of Washington, a city of about 3.5 million where online education has exploded.
McTERNAN says he believes the federal government needs to make sure that online education doesn’t become a model for other states.
The standards are designed to help schools stay competitive in an increasingly digital economy, he said.

But many states don’t have such rules.
Many online education providers are not required to abide by those standards.
And many online teachers say they want to continue to offer online instruction and to use traditional schools for their classes.
In response, many schools have become increasingly reluctant to accept students who don’t follow the rules.
The Education Department has also proposed new requirements for online textbooks and other online materials.
But those rules are still in development.
And DeVos has asked that a special education rule for online instruction be put in place.
The rule would allow online instruction in schools where there are more than 10,000 students.
That could mean that schools that don’t currently offer online learning programs would need to change their policies.
