A new survey suggests the number of people with access to online sex education is on the rise, with many more people accessing it in the UK than ever before.
The survey, conducted by the online education and training service OpenDNS, also found that while the number online sex educators is still in the mid-teens, this number has grown by an estimated 5% since 2011.
This year’s survey found that online sex is being used by around 10% of all adults, with more than 80% of adults having heard about it in a school setting.
The majority of people who have learned about sex education in the past year have been men, with women more likely to have used it in their daily lives.
While online sex has traditionally been seen as a young person’s game, the survey found there is an increasing number of men and women in the workforce who are using the service.
The data also showed that more men are now using online sex than ever, with men using it more than four times as often as women.
This is despite the fact that women still account for more than two thirds of the workforce, with the gap between men and Women’s Institute chief executive Dr Anne-Marie Wills continuing to widen.
“Men are increasingly using online sexual education, and they are getting more comfortable doing so,” Dr Wills said.
“Women are more comfortable sharing their own experiences, but still find it difficult to learn.”
Online sex education has become a more mainstream topic in recent years with online courses on topics such as consent, relationship, masturbation, contraception and birth control.
While the vast majority of online sex courses are designed for younger audiences, this has not always been the case.
Dr Wamps said the growing number of young people using the services is “not surprising”, with many opting to access online sex from their parents or schools.
“We have seen a real shift in the way people are accessing sex education on a regular basis,” she said.
Dr Wills also pointed to the increasing number in the education sector, with online education services increasing in number by 25% in the year to June 2017.
“These figures are just one indicator of how important online education is for the future of our education system,” she added.
OpenDNS is one of the leading providers of online education for employers and training organisations, with courses ranging from online job interviews to online job search.
